Layfullstop
Making an impact since breaking onto the Manchester scene in 2016, Layfullstop has garnered the attention of music tastemakers and industry press around the world with her genre-defying work, experimenting with elements of jazz electronica, gospel, soul and hip hop. With her faith as the driving force, Lay’s music holds deeper sentiments consisting of realness, hope and hardships.
Growing up with the likes of jamiroquai, 90s RnB/Gospel music and Japanese Jazz Fusion bands such as Casiopea, it’s not hard to see where Lay’s inspirations and unique blend originated. Not only is Lay known for her strong nod to jazz music, but for her energetic live shows and words of wisdom on and offline.
Supported by The Independent, The Guardian and DUMMY amongst others, Lay has garnered attention from COLORS Studios, Redbull Music and BBC Radio producers JamzSupernova and Rebecca Judd from Apple Music.
Since introducing herself with singles like ‘Crown City’ and ‘Bohemian Queen’, rising U.K. artist Layfullstop has continually shown why she’s one of the most exciting Hip-Hop talents around. Last year, Layfullstop released ‘Colour Reaction’, a nine-track mixtape which showcased her wonderful wordplay and razor sharp flow. Earlier this year, the Manchester based artist dropped her ‘Cherries’ EP, another dazzling project that features standout cuts like ‘PMT’ and ‘SOS’.
For her COLORS session, Layfullstop delivers a hypnotising performance of the EP’s magnificent title-track soundtracked by a caramel smooth beat penned by frequent collaborator Pitch 92. On ‘Cherries’, Layfullstop takes centre stage as she works her magic with an effortless flow as she sings and raps about “being aware of the type of fruits we produce as people” as well as embracing the new femininity that’s growing within her. Dive into the performance above, and be sure to give Layfullstop’s ‘Cherries’
EP a spin too.
