FAQs
Below are the answers to some of our most commonly asked questions. If you don’t see what you are looking for, you can email us: info@influentialmusic.co.uk
What’s the future for Influential Music?A jazz rappers roster, a jazz singers roster, a 100+ talent roster, talent bookings with clubs and venues outside of the UK!
What do we do for the environment? As much as we can do in the shape of cycling to work, having recycling bins in the office, recycling ink-cartridges and batteries, re-using stationery like old postage packaging and Blue Tack. We even use scrap paper, as appose to fresh paper, for notes etc. Just doing as many little things as we can, to help the planet!
What do we do for the community?Influential Music is a division of AYM MEDIA GROUP (AMG). The AMG ethos is 1. Supporting the arts 2. Improving employment and 3. Enhancing community engagement. AMG gives free music promotion to its connected industry (contemporary jazz), offers music investments to struggling artists, arranges work placements to local schools - including The Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM), supports artist development in secondary schools, primary schools and nurseries and campaigns for public donations to continue its works.
How do we source our clients? We are quite specific in the clients we wish to work with; British brands, creative agencies, live music venues, contemporary British jazz artists.
How do we source our talent? We only work with talent who are; recording artists, jazz related, contemporary, who perform live, market themselves and are active, engaging and (mostly) British.
Where did the idea for this business come from? The founder of Influential Music (and AYM MEDIA GROUP) is AJ Haseley. He has a love for contemporary British jazz – its sounds and its talents. He left his university job in 2020 to undertake some intense research on UK jazz scene. Wondering how he would be able to support and work in this scene, he had the vision to not just continue club bookings for these artists but to really try and enhance their portfolio’s - with things like brand partnerships and commercial projects. He worked 4 months straight on his potential clients database (and products to introduce to them), registered the company, got on an office and the rest is history! That same year he got first commercial project with the Cabinet Office.

Leonard Maassen
Leonard Maassen is a music producer, drummer and composer drawing on electronic, ambient and jazz sounds. Having grown up in Germany, France and England, his music reflects this international background. Influenced by his study of decolonial and feminist Geographies at Oxford University, Leonard’s recent work has taken a more experimental approach. He focuses on textures produced using hardware synthesizers and field recordings collected on walks around the city or the forest. Alongside current collaborations with visual artists and sound biologists, Leonard runs a monthly radio show, ‘Intonations’, on Bonse1 Radio. As a performer, he has supported artists including Afriquoi, Alex Rita & Errol Anderson, Steam Down, Artwork, Sigala. Leonard’s debut EP ‘Lillies’ is inspired by his Geography degree, questioning our relations to the environment, and each other, in the contemporary world. Natural, acoustic, electronic and human sounds are juxtaposed and warped into intricate and unique musical ecosystems.

Kanna
The South London jazz scene is expansive and intoxicating, with Kanna providing a fresh sound within it. The group makes music that is technical in ability, yet deeply emotive at its core, dealing with issues of conflict, loss, and power. Harmonic progressions are tinged with Jazz and Neo Soul, the drums ricochet with angular time signatures, while the warmth of Harriet’s vocals ground the aesthetic with a very human touch.Kanna released their first single “Reflections” in Spring 2020 to much positive acclaim, followed up by a “Live from Lockdown” video session for LoveHate™ Records. Their second single “No Room” was released on 30th October and has already been picked up by playlists New Soul (1,300 followers) and London + UK Jazz (800 followers). The full 6 track EP was released on 27th November and has already been played by the likes of Dan Alani (Reprezent, BBC Radio 1) and Neil March (ExileFM).Kanna have been 8 years in the making, forming in 2012 as a collaboration between four individuals with a diversity of musical influences. Cortex, Fatima and BADBADNOTGOOD have all fed into the sound, but Kanna’s music is their own, existing outside the reference points of their peers.
